Astralis are looking better with each passing week and look set to hoist their first trophy since ESL One Road to Rio.

The ninth week of the Oceanic Esports League will kick off with a clash between Your Soul Is Mine and Bokebi. The match is billed as very one-sided, as Bokebi are 6-4-2 and YSIM are winless at 0-6-8.

Despite Your Soul Is Mine’s poor record, there is more to their performances than meets the eye. On paper YSIM’s only noteworthy recent results are stalemates against Sincerely Fury and Power of Friendship, but we shouldn’t look past their strong resistance against Cuteanimegirls two weeks ago.

Dota 2 betting sites are offering around +176 on YSIM to win at least one map, which seems like great value considering Bokebi did not look too sharp against Power of Friendship last Thursday.

Cuteanimegirls (8-3-2) and Adio Chula (7-4-2) have solidified themselves as two of the strongest teams in the tournament. They currently occupy the top two spots in the standings, which all but guarantees them a spot in the playoffs.

These two sides met back in August during the third week of the competition. The match ended in a stalemate, although it was Cuteanimegirls who looked slightly better overall.

R6S Oceanic Nationals 2020

Team Ferox split their opening four games 2-2, but they deserve some praise for solid performances against two frontrunners in the Pittsburgh Knights (5-7) and Noble (5-7). Standing on the other side of the arena this Wednesday will be Elevate, who won their clashes with Rhythm (8-7) and Okami (7-3) but struggled against the Knights (5-7) and Wildcard Gaming (2-7).

Elevate are priced as huge favourites for this match, but Ferox defeated them 7-3 in May during the Six Masters 2020 Regular Season and have shown slightly better form this tournament. Considering Elevate struggled against Rhythm and managed to win only two rounds against Wildcard, we have reason to believe Ferox can upset the favourites.

The odds at most Rainbow Six betting sites heavily favour LFO for this match, which is hard to understand. While they are viewed as the better team, their performances throughout Oceanic Nationals 2020 hardly reflect that.

LFO have yet to win a single match this tournament and hold a league-worst -14 round differential. Rhythm find themselves in a similar situation at 0-4, but they have a marginally better map differential at -11.

One thing that stands out is Rhythm’s impressive performances against Elevate (7-8) and Wildcard Gaming (6-8), which lead us to believe they’re not as bad as their record might suggest. This match could go either way, so we don’t have to think twice before taking the +145 offered on Rhythm.

The 21-year-old Australian LoL pro becomes the second mid laner on Legacy’s League of Legends roster, marking his return to the organisation after a spell with Legacy Genesis in 2018.

With Legacy Genesis, Halo claimed a seventh-place finish at the Oceanic Challenger Series (OCS) 2018 Regular Season before leaving the team in November 2018. After spending six months as a free agent, Halo joined MAMMOTH Academy in May 2019 and led his new team to a gold medal in the OCS 2019 Regular Season and a runner-up finish in the playoffs.

With his return to Legacy Esports, Halo will likely share time with James “Tally” Shute, who spent the majority of his LoL esports career as a top laner before transitioning to the mid lane during this year’s OPL Split 1.

“I’m excited to work with this group of talented players and I’m sure we can bring home another trophy with hard work,” said Halo.

Legacy’s Head of Esports, Tim “Carbon” Wendel, said of the new arrival: “I’m excited to welcome Halo back to LGC. He’s been super impressive in solo queue recently.

“Tally has been an important part of our success this year. Halo will help to round out our champion pool in the mid lane.”

In May, Halo reached the no.1 player ranking in the Oceanic LoL region when he earned 1,084 points with a 247/199 win/loss ratio. While he has slid a little way since then, he still ranks seventh with 822 points.

Legacy Esports threw Halo straight into the fray on Saturday when they faced off against Pentanet.GG. The bout ended with Pentanet winning in convincing fashion, while Halo failed to show up with a disappointing 2/7/4 record on Orianna.

While Legacy sit top of the OPL Split 2 standings with a 9-3, those losses have all come in the past two weeks. Tally was somewhat to blame for the defeats to ORDER and MAMMOTH since he managed a rather mediocre 8/8/11 record across the two series, but Halo’s poor showing against Pentanet suggests the mid lane role is still up for grabs.

Legacy Esports will next face Avant Gaming on Friday, July 10, followed by a clash with Chiefs Esports Club on Saturday, July 18.

Scheduled for November, the League of Legends: League of Origin tournament will see the top gamers in the Oceanic Pro League (OPL) compete for their home regions in a State of Origin-style contest.

The agreement includes provisions for the construction of a purpose-built esports studio in Melbourne, while the AFL and Riot will join forces to further promote and develop League of Legends competitions in Australia and New Zealand.

“Esports is one of the most exciting emerging industries to come in and disrupt the traditional sports landscape,” said Darren Birch, the AFL’s General Manager of Growth, Digital and Audience.

“Riot are a respected and credible leader in this space, and this event will be a great opportunity to continue together on that path. We will bring our expertise and insight to the competition, giving all-star players an opportunity to play with different teams, play in a different tournament structure and in a completely different venue environment.

“Our vision is to progress the game of AFL and continue to help fans share in the experience of footy. Working with Riot is one step towards us learning new ways to connect with fans and enhance the complete digital experience.”

The AFL already enjoys strong ties with the OPL, where both the Adelaide Football Club and the Essendon Football Club have their own esports teams.

More clubs are expected to follow suit in the coming years, with Carlton and Collingwood already exploring the possibility.

“We’re excited to continue to learn and lead in this space with our new partner, Riot, and to work with our two AFL clubs already in this space, Adelaide Crows and Essendon Bombers, to build out player pathways and opportunities,” Birch added.

According to Daniel Ringland, Head of Oceanic Esports for Riot Games, the AFL’s reputation as a trail blazer made the partnership a natural fit.

The Bombers enjoyed the better start in the League of Legends encounter, taking the advantage in game one after Crows top laner Min ‘Mimic’ Ju-Sung missed a golden opportunity early.

Known as the High School Esports League (HSEL), the new competition will see students create teams and compete against one another in League of Legends (LoL).

LoL is an online computer battle game played by several players at the speed and intensity of “a real-time strategy game with role-playing game elements”.
