Before the start of the ALGS season, Reignite had two active teams in Apex Legends. However, they had to disband one because no organization is allowed to field multiple teams in the competition.

With Reignite North disbanded, the Japanese esports organization focused on their APAC South roster. Even after winning the ALGS Split Two Playoffs, the organization released their roster on July 4.

Shortly after, DarkZero marked their entry into the Apex scene by signing the trio of Rhys “Zer0” Perry, Rick “Sharky” Wirth, and Noyan “Genburten” Ozkose. The American esports organization made the announcement via their official Twitter page.

In the ALGS Championship scheduled to commence on July 7, Zer0, Sharky, and Genburten will fly the DarkZero banner. The signing plays right into the hands of two of the players, who have been wanting to move to America.

Zer0 and Genburten are looking for better competition, and ease of work as regards a stable internet connection. Now that they are signed to DarkZero, their chances of getting visas to live and work in the region have been greatly improved.

The squad have shown their strength on the international scene, and DarkZero will be hopeful the players lead the organization to a championship in their first attempt. DarkZero is one of 40 teams participating in the championship scheduled to be held at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The LAN event has brought together the best teams around the world, each fighting for a piece of the $2 million prize pool. The finals will be played on July 10, where 20 teams will slug it out to be crowned world champions.

Reignite was arguably the best team in Apex. Now, DarkZero has a unique opportunity to manage the same roster that took Reignite to those heights.

Shortly after the conclusion of Apex Legends’ Stockholm LAN playoffs, the organizers revealed the date and time of the Global series.

Meanwhile, Australian-based Reignite won the Spring 2 playoffs in Stockholm, walking away with $250,000 from the $1 million prize pool and 500 playoff points.

Forty teams are scheduled to participate in the 2022 ALGS with a prize fund of $2.5 million. However, only thirty teams have qualified for the offline event, many of which came from the playoffs stage in several regions.

The remaining ten slots will be filled after the completion of the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) 2. Upon completion of the LCQs, the top two teams from NA, SA, APAC North, EMEA, and APAC South will join the 30 already qualified teams.

Apex Legends Global Series Championship Format

The Group Stage will commence on July 7, and the format of the entire event will be similar to what was obtained in the Spring 2 playoffs. It will be a four-day event, starting with the Group Stage on July 7 as earlier stated.

Four groups of ten will be created, with each team playing 18 games in a six-game series on Day 1. At the end of this stage, while all teams will advance to the Bracket Stage, they will be distributed based on their rankings.

The top ten teams will start the bracket stage in Round 2, while the last ten teams will commence in the losers bracket Round 1. For those in the middle, they will feature in the bracket Round 1.

In the Finals, there is no match limit. Whoever wins a match after getting “Match Point Eligible” wins the contest. To be “Match Point Eligible,” you have to reach 50 total points.

Teams have a lot to prove in this competition, starting with Reignite. Their performance will be for the entire APAC South region, as many believe the zone to be feeble. They will have to dominate and show why they are the champions of the area.

NA will be looking to show their strength in the competition, with teams like NRG and OpTic Gaming getting the opportunity to establish themselves in the international LAN layout. For TSM, it will be an attempt to return to former glory.

There is so much to play for, including the $500,000 prize for the winner of the competition.
